Date:     Monday, June 28 - Saturday, July 3, 2010

Level:    AA-Level World Series (AAA Teams Must Play Up One Age Division)

Please Note The Changes & Updates

2010 FCA World Series Teams
(Updated June 26th)

Thank you for signing up to play in the FCA World Series this year.  Even though we may not have a large number of teams in your age group, we can make this work (even if we only have 3 teams in that age level), to give teams 5+ games.  There may be 3 or 4 teams out of 33 teams who may only get 4 games, but it looks like that's all it would be. Wherever possible, though, we will try to provide a consolation game, for those teams who get knocked out early.

We have looked at various scheduling scenarios to make the tournament work best around work & day schedules for most of the age groups, based on the number of teams in each age division.  Depending on your age group and number of teams you may be playing either 2 or 3 pool games + a double elimination tournament with all teams being seeded.  (We are looking at 2 pool play games to help save your pitching for the double elimination tournament, where it counts the most.)  There might be one age group who could play 4 games that all count, and then play a seeded single elimination tournament.

IF WE ONLY HAVE 3 TEAMS IN AN AGE GROUP, WE WILL PLAY A DOUBLE ROUND ROBIN (EACH TEAM PLAYING THE OTHER TEAMS TWICE).  The 2 teams with the best record will then play for the Championship and the 3rd place team will receive their trophies.  This may not apply for all 3-Team Divisions, such as the
combined 13 & 14 year-old division.

We are trying to NOT play on Monday morning to interfere with your work day.  As a result, we will begin play on Tuesday with most of our games starting either at 4:00 or 6:00 PM (except for the 10 year-old division which has 10 teams registered to play.  We may need to start at 2:00 on a couple of days, early in the tournament, but not sure yet).  The more teams we have in an age group, the earlier we may need to start play.  If we need to play on Monday Morning, we will let you know as soon as possible, but it doesn't look like we will need to.

The 2010 FCA World Series Will Have 33 Teams Playing In 7 Age Divisions
7CP:   3 Teams
9AA:   9 Teams
10AA: 8 Teams
11AA: 4 Teams
12AA: 4 Teams

SKILLS COMPETITION DETAILS

The overall objective of the skills competition is to have every player on each team participate and enjoy the social interaction of the tremendous event.

Number Of Skills Competition Participants:
  • Select, at least, one player to run in the NEED FOR SPEED individual base running competition. (Any additional player that is NOT involved in the over-the-line hitting competition, or around the horn team throwing competition, may be added to this event)
  • Select one player to hit in the OVER-THE-LINE individual hitting competition.
  • Select 9 or 10 players for the AROUND THE HORN team throwing competition (choose 10 if you are going to use 2 catchers)
  • We will record your team participant's name on the Skills Competiton Score Sheet at the time he takes his turn to run or hit. There is no need to register for the skills competition ahead of time; just show up at the appropriate field when the competitions are being held.
  • We will also confirm the number of players on your roster at the time of the AROUND THE HORN competition to determine how many awards your team will need, should your team win that event.
Skills Competition Rules:

"Need For Speed" Baserunning Competiton (Individual Event)
  • This is a Timed Event.
  • Each runner will start in the batter's box [from the RIGHT SIDE, even if he is a left-handed hitter] and make a fake swing when the Timer yells, "GO".
  • Each runner will run one time around the bases (Home to Home).
  • The Timer will start the clock when he yells "GO" and will stop the clock when the runner touches Home Plate.
  • If there is a tie, there will be a "run-off" until a winner is determined.
  • Fastest Runner will win an individual medal in each age level.
  • Runner Up Medals may be given.
"Around-The-Horn" Throwing Competiton (Team Event)
  • All 9 positions used.
  • You may use 10 players (2 catchers) to involve more players.
  • There will be cones set up to indicate where each fielder will be positioned to keep the distances fair and equal for each team participating.
  • Each fielder must throw the ball from behind & near the cone to the next fielder.  This means, if there is a wild throw, the fielder needs to go get the ball and run back to behind & near his cone to make the throw to the next fielder.
  • This is a Timed Event; the clock starts when timer yells, "GO".
  • Pitcher in the set position initiates the throw around by throwing to Catcher 1 in a squat position ... Catcher 1 throws to 3B ... 3B throws to 2B ... 2B throws to SS ... SS throws to 1B ... 1B throws to RF ... RF throws to CF ... CF throws to LF ... LF throws to Catcher 2 (if using 2 catchers) - who must step on home plate stop the clock.
  • When the Timer has the throw-around time recorded, he will yell "Switch".
  • When the Timer yells "Switch", the team on the field must SPRINT OFF, while the next team to throw SPRINTS TO THEIR POSITIONS.
  • You will have 30 seconds to SPRINT OFF AND ON THE FIELD BEFORE THE TIMER YELLS "GO" FOR THE NEXT TEAM'S THROW-AROUND. This means, the team on-deck to throw, MUST BE READY TO RUN ONTO THE FIELD as soon as the Timer yells, "Switch".
  • The Fastest "AROUND THE HORN" time will win individual team medals in each age level (all players on the winning team's roster will receive a medal).
  • Runner Up Medals may be given.
"Over-The-Line" Hitting Competition (Individual Event)
  • The field will be marked according to the appropriate age distance.
  • There will be a "No-Points" Zone directly in front of the hitter, and then Single, Double, Triple and Home Run Zones.
  • Each hitter will get 7 or 10 swings (depending on how much time the competition is taking).
  • Pitcher will throw behind an L-Screen.
  • If the hitter hits the L-Screen, he gets another swing; Maximum times he can hit the L-Screen is Twice; After hitting the L-Screen Twice, each time thereafter will count as one of his swings.
  • Hitters will receive 100 points for Singles; 200 points for Doubles; 300 points for Triples, and 400 points for Home Runs.
  • Points will be determined by the first zone the ball touches. (For example, if the ball is hit and lands or touches first in the Single Zone and then rolls and stops in the Triple Zone, the hitter is awarded 100 points for a Single.)
  • 100 Bonus Points if Home Run is hit over the fence.
  • This event's winner will be determined by the most number of points accumulated.  If there is a tie, there will be a hit-off until a winner is decided.
  • There will be ONE winner in each age level; he will receive an individual medal.
